The Hult Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for students,” is a global competition that challenges young minds to develop innovative business ideas aimed at solving some of the world’s most pressing social issues. This year, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) at SZAB Campus in Khairpur Mir’s hosted the prestigious Hult Prize On Campus Local Competition, bringing together some of the brightest and most passionate students to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to driving positive social change.
The event, held on 20 February 2025, was a vibrant celebration of creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students from various disciplines came together to present their groundbreaking ideas, all aligned with this year’s Hult Prize theme: “Redesigning Fashion: Changing the Way We Travel, Live, and Work.” The theme challenged participants to rethink the fashion industry, focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation to create businesses that not only generate profit but also contribute to a better world.
A Platform for Innovation and Social Impact
The competition kicked off with an opening ceremony attended by faculty members, industry experts, and students. The atmosphere was electric as participants prepared to pitch their ideas to a panel of esteemed judges, including local entrepreneurs, academic leaders, and sustainability advocates. Each team had just a few minutes to present their business models, highlighting how their solutions could address critical issues in the fashion industry, such as environmental degradation, unethical labor practices, and waste management.
The ideas presented were nothing short of inspiring. From eco-friendly clothing lines made from recycled materials to digital platforms promoting sustainable fashion practices, the students demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges facing the industry and a strong commitment to creating meaningful change. One team proposed a blockchain-based system to ensure transparency in the supply chain, while another introduced a subscription service for upcycled and second-hand clothing, aiming to reduce textile waste.
Collaboration and Learning
Beyond the competition, the event served as a platform for collaboration and learning. Participants engaged in lively discussions, exchanged feedback, and networked with like-minded peers who shared their passion for social entrepreneurship. Workshops and mentoring sessions were also organized, providing students with valuable insights into business planning, marketing, and sustainable practices.
The judges were impressed not only by the quality of the ideas but also by the students’ ability to think critically and present their solutions with confidence. “It’s inspiring to see young minds tackling global challenges with such creativity and determination,” remarked one of the judges. “These students are not just dreaming of a better future—they are actively working to create it.”

The Winning Team
After hours of deliberation, the judges announced the winning team, whose idea stood out for its innovation, feasibility, and potential for social impact. The victorious team will now advance to the next round of the Hult Prize, where they will compete against other regional winners for a chance to secure a spot at the global finals and win $1 million in seed funding to bring their idea to life.
While only one team could take home the top prize, every participant left the event with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed commitment to making a difference. The Hult Prize On Campus Local Competition at Mehran UET SZAB Campus was not just a competition; it was a testament to the power of youth and innovation in driving positive change.

A Step Towards a Better Future
The success of the event highlighted the importance of platforms like the Hult Prize in empowering young entrepreneurs to think beyond profit and prioritize social impact.
